JavaScript, the Assembly Language of the Web
Kito Mann
Download slidesWhether you love it, hate it, or are somewhere in-between, JavaScript is here to stay, and is heavily woven into the fabric of modern web applications. That being said, the language definitely has its warts. And those of us who prefer other languages, especially those with static typing tend to look elsewhere. There’s one problem with other languages, though: they don’t run in a web browser, and they probably never will. Because of this, a quiet revolution is taking place: compiling to JavaScript. It’s now the assembly language of the web; a compilation target for other languages.
This session takes a look at the latest crop of JavaScript compilers for popular languages such as Java and Scala, plus new languages such as
Dart, CoffeScript, and TypeScript.
